University bus crash kills one, injures 13 in Texas

A university bus overturned Friday afternoon in the U.S. state of Texas, killing one student and injuring at least 13 others.

The bus were carrying 12 students, three faculty members and a faculty member's wife from Abilene Christian University, according to the school's website.

The bus was heading to a children's home in Medina in south-central Texas, said school spokesman Grant Rampy.

The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. (2030 GMT) in Runnels County, where the driver lost control and the bus struck a concrete culvert and rolled over. Several students were ejected from the bus.

A 19-year-old student, Anabel Reid, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The injured were rushed to four area hospitals and four of the injuries were critical, local media reported.

A vigil was held at the 4700-student university Friday night.
